Sending Ringtones to your iPhone

iDrum uses a free tool called iDrum Ringtone Sync that lets you send beats you've made to iTunes on your host computer (Mac or PC) and sync them to your iPhone as ringtones!

Because iPhone can only get new ringtones through iTunes, the extra step of using iDrum Ringtone Sync is currently required, but we think you'll find the process is simple once you follow these quick setup instructions.

Requirements for Ringtone Sync

The following things are required to make ringtones with iDrum:

  • Host computer (Mac OS X 10.4 or later | Windows: XP, Vista)
  • iPhone (iPod touch not supported)
  • iDrum Ringtone Sync utility must be installed on your computer . You can download it here: http://www.izotope.com/ring.
  • Wi-Fi network connected to your computer and iPhone.
  • iTunes 7.7 or later

Setting up your iPhone

Before beginning, go to the Settings menu on the iPhone and do the following:

  1. In iPhone Settings, configure your Wi-Fi network. Your iPhone needs to be on the same network as the PC or Mac you want to use to sync ringtones to your handset.
  2. In iPhone Settings under "iDrum," enable Desktop Sync. You can also add an optional password here for security.

NOTE: your PC or Mac can be connected to the network by an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. Your iPhone must be connected through Wi-Fi, a USB connection alone cannot transfer the files to iTunes.

Syncing a Ringtone

After you have downloaded and installed the iDrum Ringtone Sync application, connect both your computer and your iPhone to your wireless network (its ok if your host computer is connected to the wireless router through an Ethernet cable). Then start iDrum on your iPhone.

  1. Save your ringtone using the bell button in the upper-right corner of the song view. This will save up to 40 seconds of your beat from the currently selected island. The ringtone will stop at the end of the last pattern that fits within the 40 second time limit.
  2. Once you have saved your ringtone on the iPhone and connected it to the Wi-Fi network, make sure iDrum is still running and start the iDrum Ringtone Sync application on your computer. Click the Connect button.
  3. Pressing Sync will then download the audio to your computer where it gets converted into a compatible ringtone. You can see the ringtones show up automatically under the Ringtones category of your iTunes Library.
  4. Now when you sync your iPhone to your host computer's iTunes Library, the newly made ringtones will be uploaded to your iPhone handset!
